Louisiana State University in Shreveport Athletics
Home of the Pilots
The Office of Intercollegiate Athletics coordinates the Louisiana State University in Shreveport varsity athletics programs. The LSUS Pilots compete in basketball and baseball and the Lady Pilots field a team in basketball and soccer. LSUS is a member of the Gulf Coast Athletics Conference, which is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Pilots baseball program gained national recognition in 2003 when they made their first appearance in the NAIA World Series. The baseball team experienced another milestone this past season by winning their first conference championship.
The men’s and women’s basketball programs experienced successful rebirths in the 2003/04 season and have played in front of packed houses each night at the “Dock” (LSUS Health and PE Building). The men’s basketball team has won back-to-back conference championships and garnered a #1 national ranking in 2005/06. The Pilots led the country in scoring offense (100.5ppg) during the 2005/06 season. The most prestigious award received by the men’s basketball team came during the 2005/06 season as well. LSUS men’s basketball program was selected by the NAIA to receive the “Champions of Character” award.
The Lady Pilots soccer team began playing in 2005 and has experienced tremendous success. In only their second year of competition, LSUS Lady Pilot’s soccer team won a conference championship. The athletic programs have been extremely successful over the past 3 years and have brought great recognition to LSUS. Most recently LSUS sports have garnered the following accomplishments:
2007 Soccer: Gulf Coast Athletic Conference runner-up and Region XIII Semi Finalist
2007 Men’s Basketball: GCAC Tournament Champs. NAIA National Tournament Record 25 - 7
2007 Baseball: GCAC Tournament Champs Region XIII runner-up. Record 40 - 15
2007 Women’s Basketball: Record 13 - 15 over all and 9 - 9in the GCAC.
